Antigua Taxis

Taxis are a popular way to travel around Antigua

Hey Taxi

Catching a cab gives travelers an easy way to get around Antigua while leaving the driving to someone else. Taxis can be found almost anywhere on the island. They meet every plane at the airport, and most taxi drivers wait in front of major hotels. A cab is also just a convenient phone call away from any hotel.

Unlike taxis in most North American cities, Antiguan taxi cabs aren't metered, and their rates are based on regulations set by a taxi cab association. Each taxi driver is supposed to have a copy of these rates in his vehicle, but that is not always the case. So before getting into the cab, make sure to negotiate the price with the driver.

Taxis are a good way to explore the island, as a cab driver might also serve as a tour guide. Most drivers know the island and will wait for 30 minutes or more while tourists see the sights of Antigua. Reserving a taxi for the day can cost about $60(USD), and touring arrangements and rates can be made through your hotel prior to pickup. The fare for traveling from the airport to St. John's will be about $10(USD) to $15(USD); to Dickenson Bay the fare will be about $13(USD).

Taxis may be a bit expensive as a means of island travel, but they are a hassle-free way to get a feel for the beautiful geography of Antigua.
